What is your favorite memory of cooking?
My first memories of cooking involved my mom she is an amazing cook who would create balanced meals almost every day and baked bread or cakes every weekend. Her cooking would always bring people together and make everybody happy. My mom definitely inspired me to cook at an early age, she would let me help prep for meals and I would get to experience all these amazing smells (like onions simmering in butter) in the kitchen that I try to replicate in my own cooking.
What three people (past or present) would you invite to dinner?
- My wife Jennifer
- My soccer idol growing up, Oliver Kahn.
- Anthony Bourdain to talk about food and traveling the world
What’s for dinner?
Probably something that I grew up eating in Switzerland and I consider Swiss (heavy German-influenced) food. I'd make some Spätzle with a hearty stew and some veggies on the side.
You are a man of many talents – is there anything you aspire to do? Anything you have yet to master?
I think that in today's day and age we have so much knowledge accessible online and ready at our fingertips. This gives people the ability to branch out and learn/try to do something new. I love creating things or getting better at something. After spending thousands of hours on the training pitch I still enjoy every minute we spend diving into the smallest details and trying to get better.
With that in mind and our new home build nearing completion, there will be lots of work to be done around the house I could see myself going down a landscaping rabbit hole very soon.
I have an eye and a personality for attention to detail and I was also looking for a good induction stovetop. Thermador offers an incredible line of high-end appliances, and I respect the attention they put into every detail, all the way down to the finish inside the fridge/freezer. It’s on another level!
