Fact of Fiction: Five Dishwasher Misconceptions Debunked

by Bosch Appliance Experts

Dishwashers can be a saving grace among the hustle and bustle of daily life. However, some may be skeptical when relying on their dishwasher to perform a sparkling clean job every time — welcome to the mysterious land of dishwasher myths. But, it’s time to debunk a few common tall tales about dishwashers that can all be addressed with simple and innovative solutions.

Dishwasher Myth #1: Plastics can’t be thoroughly dried in the dishwasher. They melt, or never fully dry.

While the thought of opening your dishwasher to realize that your new plastic dishware has melted can be heart-wrenching, some dishwashers, like those from Bosch, use condensation drying to alleviate this worry. Instead of utilizing a heating element at the bottom of a dishwasher that can melt plastics, condensation drying involves a number of dishwashing elements that work together to efficiently dry your dishes. Plus, it is more hygienic and energy efficient than other drying methods.

One of the biggest benefits of a dishwasher is that it can help save time when it comes to kitchen cleanup. Bosch believes that when your dishes are done, so are you—once your dishwasher cycle is complete, you should be able to put them away without having to dry them with a towel. As an addition to condensation drying, the new CrystalDry™ technology from Bosch delivers 60% better drying results.*

How does CrystalDry™ work?

CrystalDry™ technology uses natural minerals that transforms moist air into heat up to 176°F. The humidity is absorbed and energy is released from the minerals in the form of heat. The hot dry air is circulated back into the dishwasher tub to dry dishes, including plastics.

What is AutoAir™?

The AutoAir™ option on select new Bosch dishwashers opens the door at the end of the drying cycle, letting moisture escape and fresh air circulate for drier dishes.* Now you can dry your dishes with a whole new air of confidence.

What is PureDry™?

All Bosch dishwashers have the PureDry™ system which features a Sanitize Option that ends each cycle with and extra hot wash, heating the water to 162°F which helps thoroughly clean, sanitize, and dry dishes.

Dishwasher Myth #2: I need to pre-rinse my dishes in order for them to come out clean.

You shouldn’t have to wash your dishes before you wash your dishes. Many of us may have a preconceived notion of needing to rinse off those leftover food particles before loading up the dishwasher, but the truth is you simply need to scrape leftover food off of your dishes before loading. With Bosch PrecisionWash™, intelligent sensors continually scan and check the progress of dishes throughout the cycle, and powerful, precision spray arms go to work targeting every item of every load. So, after dinner, you can simply load your dishes, start your dishwasher and walk away.

Dishwasher Myth #3: Dishwashers waste more water than handwashing.

Being environmentally conscious is an important topic of conversation when it comes to kitchen cleanup. A common myth is that dishwashers use more water than handwashing. All Bosch dishwashers are ENERGY STAR® qualified. In fact, far less water is consumed when you run your Bosch ENERGY STAR® qualified dishwasher as opposed to hand washing dishes. On average hand washing uses about 27 gallons per load compared to the dishwasher which uses around three. Good news for you AND for the Earth.

Dishwasher Myth #4: I can’t possibly fit EVERYTHING in a dishwasher.

Just as no two people are the same, no two loads of dishes are, either. However, a few simple loading features in Bosch Benchmark dishwashers like the adjustable RackMatic™ middle rack, FlexSpace™ tines that fold back to fit your larger items, and a third rack that creates a special home for smaller, hard to load items, makes it easy to accommodate any kind of load — from the items needed for wine and cheese night to a family-style pasta supper.

Dishwasher Myth #5: Dishwashers are noisy.

Some brands of dishwashers are loud and noisy. But not Bosch. In fact, Bosch is the quietest dishwasher brand in the U.S.* Bosch believes that quiet operation is just as important as sparkling clean dishes. For you, that means never having to wait until going to bed to run the dishwasher. And when hosting a dinner party, you can start the dishes right after dinner instead of waiting until everyone leaves. Because life doesn’t have to stop just because your dishes need to be cleaned.
