Energy Efficient Dryers Help You Live More Sustainably

by Albert Lee Appliance

Did you know that the average family has about 8 to 10 loads of laundry every week? You may not realize it, but that starts to add up cost and energy-wise. In fact, dryers use considerably more energy than your washer, microwave, range oven, and almost all other household appliances (other than your air conditioner). So, you may be wondering, what is the solution to this problem? Well, if you don’t enjoy pinning your garments outside on a clothesline so that they can air dry, it may be time to think about investing in an energy-efficient dryer when doing your laundry.

By using an eco-friendly laundry appliance, you’re doing more than just saving yourself money on your monthly energy bill – you’re helping protect the Earth from environmental damage. And the best part about using an energy-efficient dryer? You aren’t compromising the quality of the appliance when you decide to go green! From Energy Star dryers to ventless heat pump dryers to the innovative sustainable features they’re equipped with, we’re talking all about how these energy-efficient dryers will benefit you while decreasing your carbon footprint.

Look for Energy Star Certified Appliances

If you see the Energy Star symbol on a dryer, then you can automatically assume this Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved appliance has special features that will save on energy and energy costs. Energy Star dryers use about 20 percent less energy than conventional models making these efficient products ideal for people who tend to do a lot of laundry throughout the month.

This Samsung electric dryer is Energy Star certified using heat pump technology – a feature that we’ll talk in more detail about later – and less electricity to dry clothes in a non-polluting way. If you are interested in Energy Star dryers, be sure to check out our promotion on heat pump dryers going on until the end of the year for a bigger selection to choose from.

Discover Features that Save Energy

Now that you’re probably wondering how heat pump dryers work and what other innovative features make a dryer energy efficient, we made a list explaining each one for your convenience.

Ventless Heat Pump Technology – A conventional dryer normally needs a vent to release the heat and moisture that the dryer produces during a cycle. One of the perks of ventless heat pump technology is that there is no need for a vent so your dryer can be placed virtually anywhere! Heat pump dryers recirculate hot air throughout a cycle instead of continuously creating heat. The heat pump dryer uses refrigerant to catch hot air, pushing it through a compressor which will make it even hotter than before. This hot air then flows back in through the dryer drum, which then goes through the cycle all over again.

The moisture from the wet clothes is then captured in the built-in catch drawer which can collect water from a couple of cycles, depending on the size of your dryer, or it can run through a hose and out a drain.

EcoDry Technology – This Miele feature ensures that you’ll get both short drying times while using very little energy. With the help of this filter system and the maintenance-free heat exchanger you’ll avoid issues of lint blockages while receiving all the benefits of heat pump technology.

Sensor Dry/Moisture Sensing – Instead of wasting energy and overdrying your clothes, the Sensor Dry feature has the ability to gage how much moisture is left in your clothes and automatically optimize the time and temperature of your cycle. No more having to constantly check if your clothes are done when Sensor Dry is on the job!
